Calling all lager lovers! If you haven’t already been, we’d recommend you check out Red Oak Brewery, named the oldest and largest lager brewery in America!
Red Oak Brewery combines a lager haus with wooden benches and walls with their outdoor biergarten, perfect for the warm spring and summer days in North Carolina.
If you haven’t heard of purity when it comes to German beer before, we can explain a little bit about it since Red Oak boasts their commitment to purity when it comes to lager. There’s something called Reinheitsgebot which is the 1516 Bavarian Law of Purity, stating that the only ingredients allowed in beer making were hops, barley, and water, decreed by Duke Wilhelm IV, Duke of Bavaria. This was so that during wheat droughts, beer makers didn’t use things like rye in their beer to avoid famine. Red Oak sticks to this protocol, although they do add yeast, which has been added to the Law of Purity since its invention.
Lager, the most popular beer around the world, is the focal point of Red Oak, and has been since its beginnings in 1991. Starting from humble beginnings, Red Oak used to be a smaller pub that soon got bigger and bigger until it had to expand in 2017 into what it is today, America’s largest lager haus.
They’ve got two “entities:” Red Oak Brewery and Red Oak Lager Haus and Brewery where you can drink old world Bavarian Lagers, Pils, and Heller Bocks. Knock one back while enjoying food trucks in their Bier Garten or learn all about the process of a pils in their brewery tours they’re offering in the afternoons.
