Vantage South End, Charlotte’s newest urban park, is doing its best to create a space that’s a mix of cool and beautiful public art and gorgeous high-rise buildings. A 635,000 mixed-use development that’s got a boutique hotel, two 11-story buildings, and new restaurants.
While we’ve mentioned the new restaurants before, another aspect of Vantage South End that we’re excited for is their new public art, created in collaboration with a multitude of local artists. One of largest-scale pieces is an outdoor sculpture created by Ivan Depeña, a talented Charlotte-based artist who created ‘Aurum’ specifically for the Urban Park. According to Vantage’s Instagram, the piece is described as, “Evoking themes of nature and shelter, the shade-giving sculpture has 16’ wide aluminum composite canopies on 18’ high supports that complement the cantilevered and angular lines of Vantage South End.”
Aside from the amazing sculpture, there are a ton of new pieces sprinkled across the towers. Aurora Robson’s 3D piece is hung on the wall of the South Tower.
Perfect Day by Shaun Cassidy is a series of 3 paintings hanging in the meeting nook in the west tower lobby and adds a bright pop of color.
Three other pieces of art can be admired, from ‘United Fingerprints’ by Puerto Rican artist, Norma Gely, and is one of 35 “Cool Globes’ that were on display inUptown from 2020-2021. ‘A Gentle Tiger’ is an 8’x6′ mixed media piece by Maja Godlewska is located in the east tower lobby, and finally, there’s a colorful abstract mural by Sharon Dowell in the parking deck elevator lobby.
