Tequila, doughnuts, and schnitzel await us.
We are so stoked for all the amazing culinary talent we’re seeing in Charlotte as their food scene continues to improve and impress. There’s quite a few places that are on the horizon from planning to opening, and we’ve compiled a list of some of the best on our radar. From Tokyo-inspired cocktail bars to authentic Jewish cuisine, here are 6 upcoming and unique restaurants you definitely need to keep an eye on here in Charlotte.
1. Mariposa
The Mariposa is slated to open this season at the Mint, one of Charlotte’s most popular museums. Mariposa will invite guests to learn about the world through a expertly designed menu of global cuisine, from Gullah Seafood Paella to Mezcal Pork Belly and Piri Piri Chicken.
Where: 500 South Tryon Street, Uptown
2. meshugganah
Meshugganah is Charlotte’s first ever, made-from-scratch Jewish Deli and Bakery. Their goal is to explore and introduce Jewish cuisine through the seasons, with plates including but not limited to Chicken Schnitzel, Challah, and Pastrami Gumbo. You can catch them at Petty Thieves Brewing before they get their brick and mortar space.
3. Milkbread
Milkbread comes to you from the team behind the popular, Kindred, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what they’ve got baking. You can except bready, delicious donuts, huge fried chicken sandwiches, and tasty natural wines.
4. Broken Promises
We don’t have that much information on Broken Promises just yet, but this craft cocktail bar is looking to be a unique Tokyo-meets-New-York-inspired cocktail bar coming to South End. From the same owners of Lost and Found, Broken Promises’ branding, so far, has taken its inspiration from anime, with an aesthetic similar to Blade Runner, and we are absolutely stoked.
5. Royal Tot
We’ve highlighted the Royal Tot before as your new Caribbean, beachy cocktail destination if you aren’t quite over those summer vibes. Right now as they wait for opening, they’re having their “temporary harborage” at Refuge where they’re serving up tropical tiki cocktails if that’s your jam. Make a reservation here.
6. La Capital
Coming soon to South End is a brand new Mexican restaurant, La Capital, serving up Mexican fare and cocktails from their beautiful Tulum-esque bar. La Capital will be replacing Luciano’s with an upscale menu and lots of variety in their tequila and tequila-based cocktails. We can’t wait.
