There’s plenty of places around Charlotte to see the latest Hollywood Blockbuster like Jurassic World Dominion, Lightyear, and Thor: Love and Thunder, but where are you supposed to go to see films like A24s Men or Norwegian Film, The Worst Person in the World? Look no further than Charlotte’s newest non-profit community cinema, The Independent Picture House, a cinema dedicated to divers, foreign, arthouse, and independent films coming to NoDa.
The Charlotte Film Society, founded in 1982, are dedicated to film that reflects the community and reaching far beyond by showcasing films in other countries. They grew a small community together by organizing Saturday Night Cine Clubs, their Back Alley Film Series, and Charlotte Film Lab and after much fundraising, they’re finally going to have a community cinema of their own. There will be 2 large film screens, a microcinema, and a concession stand.
Their opening day is crawling nearer and nearer, on June 24th, just in time for summer. What’s more, you can enjoy the Charlotte Film Festival Dates from September 28th to October 2nd.
While we don’t have a 2022 schedule of films yet, there have been an enormous amount of movies to come out of the last couple of years that we’re hoping are going to be on the big screen at the Independent Picture House. What movie do you hope they’ll screen?
