Have a drink in the garden or in the pews of this newly-restored church meets restaurant.
A new cocktail bar has opened in Charlotte and there’s a lot of hype around it. Supperland is described as a Southern Steakhouse-Meets-Church Potluck. Set inside an old Mid-century building, Supperland’s decor is as beautiful looking as its whimsical dishes inspired by the church scenery itself.
The newly renovated Supperland extends across two old church buildings, with many features to enjoy upon your visit. You could wine and dine inside their fancy champagne nook, check out the southern garden, enjoy your meal on the outdoor patio, or inside in their expansive dining room and bar area. The team behind Supperland took great care in their restoration project of the old church and say on their website, “A great joy in restoring an old building is finding ways to keep the past alive. Maybe it’s the responsible thing to do, but it also helps pull forward history, tell our neighborhood’s stories, and give our city unique places to build upon.” The building dates back to 1948 and the investors, Jamie Brown and Jeff Tonidandel, the people behind a few other Charlotte favorites, are happy to be a part of the building’s history moving forward.
Supperland’s menu is typical and elegant steakhouse fare with a tribute to Church potluck staples, and they’ve paired with farm owners to source their produce locally. Try a Wagyu Pot Roast for dinner with a side of roasted seasonal vegetables or go for the grilled lobster, which is a 2lb whole lobster with miso butter and grilled lemon. Pair it with an absinthe frappe and you’re in for a treat. For something a little lighter, they have a dish called a 7-layer salad of local, seasonal vegetables, crunchy black eyed peas, goat cheese, and herb-mustard vinaigrette. For dessert, the homemade Citrus Pie sounds good. A citrus curd, mascarpone cream, honey-soaked grapefruit pie with lemon cookie crumble and a candied grapefruit peel. Yum!
Check out Supperland, one of Charlotte’s most exciting additions to the food and drink scene. Since there’s so much buzz surrounding this place, you might want to check out their website for reservations. They’re located in Plaza Midwood at 1212 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC 28205.
